MHI of India issued an office memorandum to change the conformity assessment scheme in Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2020 (hereinafter referred to as “EEQCO”).
Formerly, the EEQCO was issued on 2020 to mandate that listed equipment bear the Standard Mark under a license from BIS as per Scheme-II in Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulation, 2018. The implementation date was one year after the Order’s publication.
Now, after consultation with stakeholders, it was emerged out that that the timely implementation of the EEQCO is not feasible under Scheme-II. Therefore, the assessment scheme is recommended to be changed to the Scheme-X.
In this regard, following documents are drafted to implement the changes:
▶ Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2023 (hereinafter referred to as “EEQCAO”)
▶ Product Specific Guidelines for Circuit Breakers
The biggest changes of the EEQCAO are as follows:
▶ Scheme-X in Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 shall be used in placed of Scheme-II in Schedule-II.
▶ Implementation date for Circuit Breakers is put off with phased plan according to product categories:
