On November 18, 2024, the Thailand Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) announced an updated regulation regarding the designation of UV filters that can be used in cosmetic manufacturing.
In the updated regulation of the designation of UV filters in cosmetics (B.E. 2019.2.18), Titanium dioxide has been separated into two categories: titanium dioxide and titanium dioxide (nano). Each category now has specified usage conditions and maximum allowable concentrations.
This update reflects changes introduced at the ASEAN Cosmetic Scientific Body (ACSB) meeting, in accordance with the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive (ACD). As a result, item 24 (“Titanium dioxide including as nanomaterial”) in the list attached to the regulation has been abolished and replaced with two separate items: 24 (“Titanium dioxide”) and 24a (“Titanium dioxide (nano)”).
This regulation has been in effect and is being implemented since November 18, 2024.
