On January 9, 2026, the Malaysian Medical Device Authority (MDA) issued the Medical Device (Prescribed Medical Device) Order 2026 to strengthen the regulation of medical devices used for aesthetic and cosmetic purposes, ensuring consumer safety and protection.
Under this regulation, the use of certain medical device in aesthetic procedures will be more comprehensively controlled.
The regulated devices included.
- Laser treatment devices
- High-Intensity Focuses Ultrasound (HIFU) devices
- Liposuction devices
- Related procedural devices
These devices must comply with regulatory requirements, ensuring that operators possess government recognized qualifications and skills, while guaranteeing safety, quality, and suitability when used on the general public.
The regulation is scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2026.
