ACMA made the Telecommunications Legislation Amendment and Repeal (2022 Measures No.1) Instrument 2022 (the Instrument), which amends the Telecommunications (Labelling Notice for Customer Equipment and Customer Cabling) Instrument 2015 (the TLN) and repeals 3 technical standards.
The biggest change on the TLN is that QR Codes are allowed. From now on, suppliers can use a QR Code, or similar thing, as an alternative form of compliance label, if the relevant link is to information on a website that displays the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) prominently.
By enabling QR codes as an alternative form of compliance label, the labelling requirements align with those under the Radiocommunications Act 1992. This provides consistency as well as the flexibility for suppliers to comply with labelling requirements through the use of modern technology.
Please be aware that QR Code is only acceptable for ACMA RCM. ERAC/EESS has not allowed QR Code as an alternative form of compliance label yet. All Level 1, 2 or 3 electrical equipment offered for sale by registered Responsible Suppliers must be marked with RCM.
