On Oct 19 of 2023, General of Foreign Trade in India issued the notification No. 38/2023, which amends former notification No. 23/2023 & No. 26/2023.
Meanwhile the former notifications require Import Authorization to import all the in-scope-products from Nov 01 of 2023, the new notification allows the products which are manufactured in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) to be imported into Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) without an Import Authorization.
Activities such as re-packing, labelling, refurbishing, testing, and calibration alone within the SEZ are, however, not considered as manufacturing for the exemption.
Also, import by private entities on behalf of Central & State Government Entities, for Defence & Security purposes, shall be exempted from the Import Authorization.
