Consumers in Belo Horizonte/MG, João Pessoa/PB and Porto Alegre/RS has been able to access to standalone 5G from 29th July. The Monitoring Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems in the 3,625 to 3,700 MHz band (GAISPI) approved, on 27th July, the anticipation of the release of the use of the radio frequency band from 3,300 MHz to 3,700 MHz (known as the 3.5 GHz band) to these capitals.
With GAISPI's decision, ANATEL will issue tickets for the payment of installation fees for 5G antennas in the 3.5 GHz band in these three capitals. After confirmation of payment by mobile telephony providers, companies can start operations in the 3.5 GHz band.
The use of 5G technology, as authorized by GAISPI, allows the full application of the technology's potential, with high download and upload speeds.
Mobile telephony providers that acquired lots in the 3.5 GHz band have until September 29 to comply with the first coverage requirement of the 5G Notice : the installation of at least one fifth-generation technology antenna for every 100,000 inhabitants in the Brazilian capitals. The rules defined by the Agency determine the densification of 5G coverage at 3.5 GHz in capitals until July 2025, and the new technology must be present in all municipalities by 2029. Since July 6, 5G at 3.5 GHz is in operation in Brasilia.
The start of 5G operation in Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa and Porto Alegre was only possible after the adaptation of satellite receiving stations in these cities. GAISPI followed 5G coexistence tests with satellite, and no interference was detected. All capitals must be able to receive 5G by August 29.
For the population that receives Open TV broadcasts through the satellite dish, it is necessary to adapt the equipment. Enrolled in the Single Registry of Social Benefits of the Government (Cadúnico) who receive an open satellite TV signal can request the free kit for the adaptation of the equipment, being necessary to make an appointment.
