Starting from August 16, the providers that acquired the 3.5 GHz band in the 5G bid, held last year, will be able to activate stations with the fifth-generation technology of the mobile service in the cities of Curitiba/ PR, Goiânia/GO and Salvador/BA.
The decision was taken on August 12, by the Monitoring Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems in the 3,625 to 3,700 MHz band (Gaispi).
The cities of Brasília/DF, Belo Horizonte/MG, João Pessoa/PB, Porto Alegre/RS and São Paulo/SP already have 5G stations in operation. The 3.5 GHz band is the one that guarantees the best potential of the fifth generation.
According to the Band Management Entity (EAF – Siga Antenado), the cities of Florianópolis/SC, Palmas/TO, Rio de Janeiro/RJ and Vitória/ES should be able to receive 5G by August 29.
Gaispi decided, based on logistical information from the EAF, to recommend to ANATEL's Board of Directors the postponement of the availability of the 3.5 GHz band until October 28 in the 15 other capitals.
Such measure is necessary to allow the conclusion of the actions of vacating the band and mitigation of possible interferences in the reception of the Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) stations. The possibility of anticipation remains, even in these 15 cities, provided that the necessary measures are adopted by the EAF.
Whoever receives the broadcasts of TV Aberta through the satellite dish needs to adapt the equipment to avoid possible interference.
Enrolled in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico) who receive a satellite TV signal can request a free kit for adapting the equipment to Siga Antenado, the trade name of EAF.
