BURUNDI: THE ROADMAP OF 5G

 

To prepare Burundi for the imminent introduction of the fifth generation of mobile communications technology (5G), the ARCT has just developed a roadmap that describes activities aimed at supporting, stimulating and facilitating the deployment of networks and 5G services in the country.

 

This roadmap will also serve as a guide for the ARCT in the effective, transparent and efficient management of the frequency spectrum that the electronic communications sector and industry needs to ensure the rapid, robust and stable deployment of 5G networks and services.

 

According to the roadmap, the summary of 5G frequency bands and the priority of their uses are as follow:

 

ARCT plans to launch a commercial network in the bands 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, 2.5 - 3.5 GHz in March 2023, and to develop relevant guidelines in June 2023, so that they can cover 80% of territory of Burundi with 5G in 2026.

 

ARCT is now, through this public consultation, inviting all stakeholders of the 5G ecosystem in Burundi to share their views and comments on the content of this roadmap – e.g. international standards to adopt, opinions on the frequencies, etc.
