
On November 13, 2025, the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) released the 2026 draft update of the Industrial Chemical Categorisation Guidelines as part of its annual update.
The main revisions are as follows
1) Updated the list of 294 high-risk chemicals for categorization
2) Removed the following two chemicals from the list
- 1,1,1-trichloroethane (CAS No. 71-55-6)
- fluoro(triphenyl)stannane (CAS No. 379-52-5)
3) Corrected the CAS No. for bis(pentachlorophenyl) carbonate on the list to 7497-08-7.
4) Planned inclusion of the following five chemicals under high-risk salts and esters (currently open for comment)
- 1H-Benzotriazole, 6-chloro- (CAS No. 94-97-3)
- 1H-Benzotriazole (CAS No. 95-14-7)
- 1H-Benzotriazole, 6-methyl- (CAS No. 136-85-6)
- 1H-Benzotriazole, 6(or 7)-methyl- (CAS No. 29385-43-1)
- 1H-Benzotriazole, 7-methyl- (CAS No. 29878-31-7)
The revised Industrial Chemical Categorisation Guidelines are scheduled to take effect in September 2026, and public comment on the proposed revisions will be open until January 28, 2026.
