Following up our previous news about new exemption of type approval in Botswana, recently, there was a workshop on the further changes of Type approval in Botswana.
According to the workshop, an exemption certificate is required for the exempted products, which will be able to be applied in their new e-service system. At the moment, however, the system is still being built. Until then, whenever bringing in a new model, it is required to send The Technical Description and Declaration of Conformity to the Authority by email, so that they can verify that indeed the equipment meets the exemption requirements.
BOCRA expects to complete the work by March 2024, and lunch the new system in April 2024.
The changes also include One-Time Type Approval, which allows telecommunications equipment to be type approved only once – not need to be type approved by multiple entities. The implementation of the one-time type approval will be halted, until the new system becomes available.
Additionally, Second-hand devices will not require Type Approval, if they have already been Type Approved. Type Approval clients must query the database to confirm whether they have been Type Approved. There will be verification required before accessing the certificate. If the equipment does not appear on the database, then clients will be required to apply for Type Approval following the normal process.
