
On March 10, 2026, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of Korea announced an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Cosmetics Act. The amendment aims to strengthen the international competitiveness of the cosmetics industry and includes provisions allowing the MFDS to conduct surveys on the purchase and usage of directly imported cosmetics.
Key points of the amendment.
- Request for data for surveys on the purchase and usage of directly imported cosmetics
: the MFDS Commissioner may request information from heads of central administrative agencies for the purpose of investigating and researching the purchase and usage of directly imported cosmetics. This may include product-related information such as product name, specifications, quantity, and item number declared under the Customs Act, as well as data on consumer damages related to directly imported cosmetics under the Framework Act on Consumers.
The above amendment is scheduled to take effect on April 2, 2026.
